Getting from Marrakech Menara airport to the riad
No car can reach the door of any riad in the medina. Here is exactly what happens instead — and why it is not a problem.

What actually happens when you land
- You send us your flight details. Airline, flight number, arrival time. That is all we need, and the earlier we have it the better.
- A driver meets you at the airport. Marrakech Menara is small and easy — you will not be hunting through a terminal.
- Roughly fifteen minutes into the city. Menara is unusually close to the medina; this is one of the shortest airport runs of any major destination.
- The car stops at the nearest vehicle access point — about five minutes from the riad. This is not a shortcoming of Riad Dar Alhambra. The medina is a walled old city of pedestrian lanes, and no vehicle reaches any riad door in it. Every guest of every riad does this.
- The concierge is already there waiting. He meets you at the drop-off point and walks you in through the lanes, with your luggage. You do not navigate, you do not carry, and you do not stand in an unfamiliar alley with a phone in your hand.
- Mint tea and pastries at the door. Whatever time you arrive.
The last five minutes are on foot
We would rather tell you this on the website than have you discover it with a suitcase at midnight.
The medina’s lanes are pedestrian. They are narrow, they are old, and cars physically cannot enter most of them. So the drive ends at the closest point a vehicle can reach, and the last stretch — about five minutes — is walked.
The concierge does that stretch with you and carries the bags. In practice it is the nicest part of the arrival: you go from a road, through a gate, into lanes that get quieter and narrower, and then through a plain door into a turquoise courtyard with a fountain running. People remember it.
If anyone in your party has difficulty walking or you are travelling with a lot of luggage, tell us in advance and we will plan the arrival around it.
Once you are in
- Ben Youssef Madrasa — 2 minutes on foot.
- Jemaa el-Fnaa square — about 15 minutes on foot.
- Marrakech Menara airport — about 15 minutes by car.
Which is the real argument for staying inside the medina rather than in a hotel outside it: everything you came to Marrakech to see is walkable from the door, and you are not commuting into the old city every morning.
