Seven rooms, and how they differ
Riad Dar Alhambra is a seven-room courtyard house inside the walls of the Marrakech medina, two minutes' walk from the Ben Youssef Madrasa. Every room opens inward onto the patio rather than out onto a street, which is what makes a riad quiet, and every room includes Moroccan breakfast, air conditioning and heating, fast WiFi, a private en-suite bathroom and access to the rooftop terrace.
The rooms divide into two groups. Three suites of 32 m² — the Royal Suite, the Dunes Suite and the Chaouen Suite — add a spa bath and a separate seating area. Four standard rooms of 24 m² — African, Beldi, Long and Limoni — have the same everything else at a lower rate. The gap between our €90 room and our €170 suite is space, a bath and somewhere to sit; it is not the quality of the stay.
The three things guests actually choose on
- Stairs. Six of the seven rooms are on the single upper floor and the riad has no lift. The Chaouen Suite is the only room on the ground floor — and the only room on its level, which also makes it the most private.
- A fireplace. Only the Royal Suite has one: sculpted stucco, with armchairs in front of it. Marrakech nights are genuinely cold from November to February.
- How many of you there are. Five rooms take two guests. Only the African Room and the Limoni Room sleep three.

Comfort, as standard
The three suites also include a spa bath and a separate seating area. The rooftop plunge pool is small and open in the warmer months — we would rather say so now than have you arrive expecting a swimming pool.
